Island Map & Fishing Spots
How to Fish takes you across multiple islands, each with unique fishing spots, dangerous creatures, and progressively better gear. Here's a breakdown of the island structure and where to find the best catches.
Island Progression Overview
The game world consists of multiple islands that you unlock by completing quests and defeating bosses. You start on a small island where you crashed your boat (thanks to some questionable drinking-and-boating decisions) and work your way through increasingly challenging areas.
Each island introduces new fish species, more dangerous creatures, and better equipment to buy. The progression is linear — you need to clear the boss on your current island before you can move on to the next one.
- Islands are unlocked by defeating bosses and completing quests
- Each island has unique fish species and gear
- Difficulty increases with each new island
- Later islands feature more dangerous creatures

Starter Island
The Starter Island is where your adventure begins. It's a relatively safe area with easy-to-catch fish and minimal threats. Use this island to learn the fishing mechanics, earn starter money, and buy your first equipment upgrades.
Explore the entire shoreline before moving on — there may be hidden fishing spots that yield slightly better catches even at this early stage. The boss guarding the exit to the next island will be your first real challenge.

Later Islands
As you progress beyond the starter area, each new island ramps up both the danger and the rewards. Expect tougher creatures that may attack you while you're fishing, requiring you to balance combat and angling skills.
The best fishing spots on later islands are often guarded by enemies or located in hard-to-reach areas. Better gear makes exploration easier, so don't rush to the next island before you're properly equipped. Take time to farm fish and upgrade before tackling each new boss.

Finding the Best Fishing Spots
While we can't pinpoint exact map coordinates (the game uses physics-based mechanics that make each session unique), general fishing sim wisdom applies: look for calm water, shaded areas, and spots near underwater structures.
In co-op mode, spreading out across different fishing spots on the same island lets your group cover more ground and catch more fish simultaneously. Coordinate with your teammates to maximize your collective haul before tackling the island's boss together.
- Check shorelines and calm water areas first
- Look for spots near structures or shaded areas
- Spread out in co-op to cover more ground
- Don't skip any island — farm for upgrades before progressing
